Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of an important problem for modern psychological theory and practice – the development of independence of students of humanities. The modern views of researchers on the phenomenon of independence are presented. The purpose of the article is to highlight the results of the study of the peculiarities of understanding and interpretation by students of the concept of independence with attention to its individual components. The specifics of students’ understanding of independence are shown by political science students with an emphasis on the volitional sphere of personality, while psychology students have more definitions of independence related to the emotional sphere, which is related to both individual psychological characteristics and their level of professional identity. The necessity of development of innovative psychological technologies including in the conditions of distance learning for development of independence of future experts depending on level of awareness and development of separate structural components of independence is substantiated.
