Abstract

In this article some peculiarities of authorial mask in the novel “Vanity fair” by W. Thackeray are considered. Some authorial mask markers are enumerated. Structure of the authorial mask is analyzed, which is represented in this novel it by two characters: the Manager of the performance and the Preacher. Some reasons for the choice of this type of mask are considered. Different opinions as to the number of narrating stances and are analyzed. Main reasons and ways for the narrator to deprive himself of the privileged position are examined.
