Abstract
In this paper I will report on recent observations (mostly space-based) of several unusual central stars in planetary nebulae. These objects have the potential of illuminating some aspects of the late evolution of low-mass stars, including the formation of close and wide binaries containing white dwarfs, and late thermal pulses that can occur in hot white dwarfs.
