Abstract

Pectic isozymes produced in liquid culture by strains of Heterobasidion annosum were separated by gel electrophoresis. Activity staining of the gel revealed six distinct zymogram groups which corresponded with three different intersterility (IS) groups in Europe, two IS groups in North America and one group in Australasia. Banding patterns were consistent and may be used as biochemical markers of affiliation to intersterility group.
