Abstract

Northern Uganda is still recovering from the impacts of over 20 years of civil war between the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU). The aftermath of displacement and resettlement, psychological trauma, reintegration of former combatants, children born in captivity, land conflicts and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) continue to worry communities. The region exhibits the lowest indicators in the country in terms of poverty, economic and social opportunities and human development. This paper discusses the trends, status and new dimensions of peace and security issues in post-war northern Uganda.
