Abstract

The article seeks to provide a comparative analysis of peace and ecology movements in Western Europe. Common features and differences across national boundaries are analysed in terms of cycles of protest, their social basis, the structures of the movements, their forms of action and their political impact. It is concluded that peace movements are set to decline further, while ecology movements have established themselves and will continue to affect public policy throughout Western Europe.
