Abstract

The Process Data eXchange Institute (PDXI) represents an initiative of the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) to promote the electronic exchange of process engineering data. Membership in the organization is open to operating companies within the process industry, software vendors, engineering contracting firms, and equipment design and manufacturing firms from the US and abroad. Significant progress has been made, during the past several years, towards the development of standard means to exchange process industry data. The primary effort has been devoted to the construction and validation of a set of data models that cover approximately 80% of the front-end engineering design data requirements. These models are the basis for the establishment of an approved standard on-which engineering software and databases might be built, thus providing the vehicle for the exchange of data across functional boundaries and amongst design partners, etc. This paper provides an update on the status, achievements, and future direction of PDXI.
