Hemenway, P. D. Abstract Adequate astrometric reduction of minor planet plates taken with long-focus telescopes requires correction for atmospheric dispersion and proper motion of the background stars. The Schmidt-telescope surveys provide a set of material which may prove useful toward both these ends in arbitrary star fields. To investigate these possibilities, star images have been scanned in two small fields on glass copies of the National Geographic Society-Palomar Observatory Sky Survey. The results are internally consistent to ±0.04-mag rms in B and R mag, ±0.06-mag rms in color, and ±0.10-arcsec rms (1.5 microns) in position.
