Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was undertaken to investigate and compare the two most prevalent down-hole motor types, Positive-Displacement and Turbodrill. The intent of this comparison was to evaluate the technical and operational performance characteristics and present them in a manner to aid the drilling contractor or drilling engineer in determining the best down-hole motor for a specific drilling application. Each type of drilling tool utilizing either power source possesses unique characteristics which can be tailored to the overall system to optimize the target objective; increase ROP at less cost.
