Abstract
This is the 17th volume of a postgraduate course in pediatrics and deals with new developments in pediatric surgery. The format of the volume is as attractive as its contents are unstartling, superficial, and at least in an institution where the unusual approach to the rare problem is commonplace, uninformative. In postgraduate courses the unusual must be emphasized if only for the sake of delineating conditions where life can be saved if appropriate judgments are made. Experts of international fame have written on subjects of great interest to pediatricians and pediatric surgeons. The article by Duhamel, Surgery of the Colon, Rectum and Anus, is unnecessarily brief and superficial in an area where there are many problems to be solved including those of aganglionosis associable with imperforate anus and some of the problems of familial and bizarre onset of Hirschsprung's disease.
