METHODS A total of 7 patients with solitary kidney underwent radiofrequency ablation for renal calyx carcinoma from Aug 1,2016 to Sep 30,2017. All calyx tumors were confirmed as low grade urothelial carcinoma by biopsy and the stage was T0-T1. 3 tumors located in superior calyx, 2 in media calyx and 2 in inferior calyx. Double-J stent and ureteral catheter were inserted together for continuous irrigation. Then the kidney was exposed via robot assisted laparoscope. A cooled electrode was inserted in the calyx tumor under ultrasound guidance. RFA lasted for 5 min and the pelvic was irrigated through ureteral catheter at the same time. Topical chemotherapy (Gemcitabine) was administered via intravesical instillation. Surveillance included serum creatinine, MRI and fiberoptic ureteroscopy. RESULTS Of the 7 cases, serum creatinine remained normal. Small pelvic recurrence was detected by fiberoptic ureteroscopy in 1 case, which was resected by holmium laser. CONCLUSIONS Robot-assisted ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation could be considered for renal calyx carcinoma in patients with solitary kidney, especially for low grade and early stage urothelial carcinoma. © 2018FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 199Issue 4SApril 2018Page: e1152-e1153 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2018MetricsAuthor Information Linfeng Xu More articles by this author Junlong Zhuang More articles by this author wei wang More articles by this author Hongqian Guo More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
