Abstract

Urologic laparoscopy has replaced open surgery in many urological procedures for both benign and malignant diseases. Technical improvements may be contributory for increasing enthusiasm for laparoscopic nephrectomy. There is paucity of data from England, on clinical outcomes for patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy for benign and malignant lesions. We analysed the hospital episode statistics (HES) to compare the patient characteristics and outcomes of laparoscopic radical and simple nephrectomy over 6 years.
