Abstract
Photonic crystal semiconductor optical amplifier (PC-SOA) with Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration is used to construct all-optical AND XOR gates. Half adder is broadly used as an arithmetic logical unit in optical communications. The XOR & AND logic units are the primary devices used in the all-optical half adder structure design. The performance of XOR & AND gates is numerically examined in terms of the extinction ratio (ER) and contrast ratio (CR) at a data speed of 500 Gbps. Calculated values ensure both logical correctness and acceptable quality to support high data rate communication.
