Abstract
The analysis of nucleic acids in forensic casework and research is the main objective of the discipline of forensic molecular biology. Biological evidence from crime scenes frequently contains only trace amounts of DNA or RNA. Therefore, PCR based methods permitting analysis of very limited samples are of central importance. Routinely performed techniques include quantitative PCR for nucleic acid quantification, STR multiplex PCR for DNA profiling and RT-PCR for body fluid identification.
