Abstract

Non-invasive transcranial neuromodulation currently relies on two established techniques: direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). However, poor spatial resolution and focal depth limit their target regions [1]. Transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) is a novel method capable of modulating neurons’ activity with high spatial resolution by application of acoustic fields from the surface of the head [2]. tFUS has been shown effective for brain neuromodulation in animals and humans and can be applied for treatment conditions such as neuropsychiatric disease or epilepsy [3].
