Abstract

Three-dimensional surface reconstruction from serial slices, such as CT or MRI scans, may be performed using a personal computer. Using the C language on a networked IBM PC-clone personal computer, a complete set of software to perform 3-D surface reconstruction from serial sections has been developed. Surface detection is based on level slicing or thresholding. Both depth coding and gradient surface shading models are included. This system is efficient in terms of computational and memory requirements.
