Abstract

Among toxicological assessments of chemicals, persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic chemicals (PBTs) seem more important due to their unique characteristics. The main groups of PBTs include organohalogen compounds, Halogen flame retardants (HFRs), Halogen-free flame retardants (HFFRs), some pharmaceutical waste, liquid crystal monomers (LCM), plastic monomers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and heavy metals which are thoroughly discussed. Management and control of the adverse effects of PBTs on humans, animals, aquatic species, and the environment are hot topics for regulators to concentrate on in current decades.
