Abstract

A detailed study was conducted to determine the current statues of Pb pollution in roadside dusts in Hebi city, China. Thirty-two dust samples were collected from major traffic streets in Hebi city, and then analyzed to determine the concentrations, distribution, and assessment of Pb in roadside dusts. The results showed that Pb exhibited higher metal concentrations (77.88 mg/kg for mean) than the local soil background values, indicating that the pollution may come from local anthropogenic input. The assessment by Geoaccumulation Index indicates that the roadside dusts in Hebi city was ranked to moderately contaminated level. The average values of Pb isotope ratios (206Pb/207Pb and208Pb/207Pb) were 1.162 and 2.421, respectively. Lead isotopic compositions in roadsides dusts indicated that coal combustion and cement material were the major sources for Pb pollution.
