Abstract
ONE OF the first items on the agenda at this week’s RCN Congress in Harrogate was a resolution demanding that internationally recruited nurses should be treated the same as UK colleagues. The national media and nursing press have been high-Jean Gray lighting poor treatment of overseas staff for two or three years now - ever since the worst effects of the nursing shortages began to be felt and overseas staff became such a vital part of the nursing workforce. Our Welcome to Nurse Here campaign, for instance, provided examples of good and bad practice. As part of its congress initiatives, the RCN this week launched the results of a MORI poll of overseas nurses that gives us a clearer across-the-board picture to go with the growing anecdotal evidence.
