Abstract

Multiple factors impede recruitment, replacement and/or retention of civilian mental health providers in the military, including low pay — the strongest issue — and lack of career advancement opportunities, according to a Department of Defense (DoD) report and review of mental health professionals, released to Congress Nov. 27 to accompany the FY 2020 Defense Health Program budget submission.
