Abstract
This short commentary aims to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Paulo Freire and reflect on his indirect contribution to tourism research. The commentary starts introducing Freire for those still not familiar with his biography and to some of his key concepts. Following this introductory part, we present examples of both theoretical and empirical work developed in tourism literature that used Freire's theory. We finish reflecting on the importance of Freire work in our scholarship and encouraging readers to engage with his work.
