Abstract

The Blackstone’s Police Investigators Manual and Workbook 2018 describe themselves as ‘the only texts endorsed by the College of Policing’, which ‘have established themselves as the definitive reference source for all who are involved in criminal investigation’. This write up on the back of the books sets a high standard, which is inevitably followed by the content. The National Investigators Exam is the U.K. exam which all prospective Detectives must take as part of their PIP 2 qualification and the workbook and manual are designed to help them through this process. The index to both covers all the offences and legislation that would be expected to give a new Investigator a good grounding and preparation for the NIE exam whilst at the same time providing a useful point of reference for experienced investigators. The more detailed index of the Manual makes it clear that only Parts 1–4 are required for the NIE with Part 5 being for Immigration Officers and NCA and Part 6 for the NCA only.
