Abstract

Finally, a case that appears to fall foul of both the Data Protection Act and the Computer Misuse Act, but one that also has some other lessons for us T h e British Airways/Virgin Atlantic Airways debacle. British Airways has settled out of court with Virgin Atlantic over allegations of a dirty tricks campaign. Virgin Atlantic along with British Midland and the now defunct Dan Air and Air Europe, all used British Airways' BABS airline booking system. It was alleged that confidential passenger data from Virgin Atlantic's reservation and departure system were accessed by British Airways personnel and that they then telephoned passengers who had booked flights and offered them alternative upgraded British Airways flights.
