Abstract

We propose a sub-wavelength structure on vanadium oxide film as an extra absorption layer (i.e. absorber) based on surface plasmon resonance effects, enhancing dual-band absorption in both middle wavelength infrared (MWIR) and long wavelength infrared (LWIR) region. Simulation results show that the absorber with disk structure has two absorption peaks at wavelengths λ=4.8μm and λ=9μm with the absorption magnitudes more than 0.98 and 0.94 in MWIR and LWIR region, respectively. Similarly, simulation results show that the absorber with square structure has two absorption peaks at wavelengths λ=4.8μm and λ=9.2μm with the absorption magnitudes more than 0.99 and 0.99 in MWIR and LWIR region, respectively.
