Abstract

The planned High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer HADES [1] uses a Ring Imaging CHerenkov (RICH) detector for electron identification. The RICH detector, consisting of a gas radiator, a spherical mirror and a UV detector with CaF2 window and solid photocathode, covers the polar angle range from 18° to 88°. In a full simulation, including all known background processes, the basic properties of this detector were determined. The ring recognition, both for the off-line analysis as well as for a fast (10μs) second level trigger, was studied.
