Abdominal trauma is an injury occurring to the abdomen which may be blunt or penetrating and may involve damage to any of the abdominal organ. We conducted an autopsy based study on 11 cases that had sustained blunt abdominal trauma and the results were analyzed. The most common cause for blunt abdominal trauma was found to be Road Traffic Accident (RTA) and a higher incidence was found in the male sex with a mean age group of 26.54 years. Hollow viscous and mesentericinjury was most common (81.81%) followed by liver (63.63%) and splenic injury (9.09%). The most common cause of death in our study was cranio - cerebral injuries (27.27%) followed by hemorrhagic shock (18.18%), hypovolemic shock (18.18%) andperitonitis (18.18%). Most common manner of death was found to be Road traffic Accident (63.63%). Lack of discipline among drivers and ignorance towards safety measures are major contributors towards RTAs and most fatalities can be avoided by adopting simple preventive measures.
