Abstract

Using the example of the oldest convent of the Caucasian (Stavropol) diocese, the article reveals one of the forms of charitable activity of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was associated with the spiritual and moral feat of women who devoted themselves and their lives to the service of God. Russian women’s participation in the organization of assistance to the Russian army participating in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, which became one of the most difficult wars of the second half of the 19th century, is investigated. Some aspects of the organization of training and activities of nuns and novices as sisters of mercy of the Red Cross are being studied.
