Abstract

Pathological bleeding from uterus most often represents a warning sign to serious changes in genital organs of a woman. The study analyses pathohistological findings of endometrium obtained by diagnostic curettage of 486 patients with pathological bleeding from uterus, who were treated at the Gynecology and Obstetric Ward of the Doboj General Hospital in the period of 2003 to 2005. Most of the women with pathological bleeding from uterus belonged to the age group of 41 to 50 years (226 women, 46.50%). Pathohistological examination of the curetted material, cystic hyperplasia of endometrium was most often the cause of uterine bleeding (157 cases, 32.77%), followed by endometritis (156 cases, 32.09%) and hyperplasia simplex (82 cases, 16,87%). Adenocarcinoma of endometrium was diagnosed in 30 cases (6.17%). Pathological bleeding from uterus is most often the case at women in the age group of 41 to 60. The most frequent cause of the pathological bleeding from uterus are endometrial hyperplasia, and endometritis. The diagnostic curettage with pathohistological examination of the obtained endometrium represents a standard in pathological uterine bleeding diagnostics.
