Abstract

This exercise provides a practice-based example of the principles and practice of person-centered therapy described in this issue of FOCUS. Answer the questions below, on the information provided, making your decisions taking the person-centered approach. Questions are presented at “decision points” that follow sections that give information about the case. One or more choices may be correct for each question; make your choices on the basis of the history provided. Read all of the options for each question before making any selections. For the exercise in this issue of FOCUS, the points are scaled from responses most in line with the principles and practice of Person-Centered Therapy (+3) to those neutral or typical of conventional practice (0), and to ideas that are more provider-directed in nature (−2). At the end of the exercise, you will add up your points to obtain a total score.
