Abstract
Buffalo‐area emergency physicians' effort more than five years ago to brace for the effects of a sudden shuttering of pain clinics has evolved into an initiative across New York to connect patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) to timely medication treatment. New York MATTERS (Medication Assisted Treatment and Emergency Referrals), which features an electronic referral platform overseen by the state Department of Health, is expected to expand its reach into New York City this year and is seeking a first‐time allocation of line‐item funding in the state budget.
