Abstract

This brief text covers the biologic and pathophysiological bases of a selected group of skin disorders. Primarily intended for students and physicians in training, the book evolved from a decade-old course on the pathophysiology of the skin given at Harvard Medical School. The book is not intended to be a treatise. The editors and other authors nevertheless have achieved their goal of providing the reader with an updated summary of the relevant subjects. It is written in a clear and concise style and edited well to give uniformity to the various chapters authored by 30 investigators. It covers a broad spectrum of subjects, including the normal structure and development of skin in various disease states, and concludes with a brief chapter on important psychiatric considerations in these disorders. The index is relatively comprehensive, and a random survey of it did not reveal any errors. In summary, I recommend this book
