Abstract
The present study introduces knowledge about durability applied to guaranteeing useful life in buildings, with a view to preventing early degradation. The methodology used to carry out the research included carrying out a building inspection based on NBR 16747 (ABNT, 2020) to inspect the main common areas of the civil engineering teaching building at the Federal Goiano campus Rio Verde. The main pathological manifestations present in the inspected environments were: corrosion, leaching, cracks, mold, loss of system mass, construction defects and the metal/masonry combination. Existing damage to the structure does not compromise its functionality and safety, however corrective maintenance failure can affect the performance conditions of the building and its systems.
