Abstract

Among the pathologies that aggravate the course of coronavirus infection and give the most severe complications, diabetes mellitus is distinguished. Regardless of the pandemic, diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic disease, and the risk of death in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and concomitant type 1 diabetes mellitus is almost three times higher than in patients without diabetes. The article discusses the possible mechanisms of the participation of free amino acids in the pathogenesis of the development of coronavirus against the background of diabetes mellitus. It seems important to monitor the state of protein metabolism, with varying degrees of severity of COVID-19, within six months after the disappearance of its clinical signs.
