Abstract

Earlier obtained numerical and analytical (non-path-integral) results for the writhe of a circular polymer are reproduced exactly employing the available path integral models for the semiflexible chains. It is confirmed analytically that the average writhe scales with the root of the chain length. We also briefly discuss related topological problems (e.g. knotting of circular polymers), which could be formulated and solved with the use of path integrals.
