Abstract

The IPO and the JPO have signed an agreement for a pilot program on the PPH. The initiative is aimed to reduce pendency time for patent applications in India and to increase the quality of examination at a reasonable time for examiners. It also eliminates the duplication of work by examiners on patent applications that are cleared by the other patent office and allowed for a grant of patent. However, the number of patent applications is 100 per year which is too less for a market of size of India. Additionally, IPO needs to take additional steps to increase the efficiency of examiners of patents at IPO and to reduce the average time for clearing the patent applications in India.
