Abstract
Over a period of 8 years, 66 hairdresser patients were patch tested to the North American Contact Dermatitis Group screening trays, to a hairdressers' screening tray or to both trays. Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) produced positive reactions in 45% and nickel sulphate in 27% of the patients tested. Apart from the PPD substances and glyceryl monothioglycollate, other chemicals tested produced allergic reactions in no more than 4/66 (6%) patients.
