Abstract

It is significantly yet challenging to achieve an efficient tailoring of amplitude, phase and polarization states by a single metasurface. In this work, we propose a passive reconfigurable metasurface for flexible control of electromagnetic waves based on ‘jigsaw-puzzle’ strategy. A detachable coding element is designed to manipulate the incidence of both linearly and circularly polarized waves in a wide frequency band. By reconfiguring the layout of the 10 × 10 arrays of coding elements, independent control of amplitude, phase and polarization states is achieved. The simulated and measured results are comparable, which supports the feasibility of this work. Moreover, this work not only provides a new way to design meta-devices with versatile functionalities, but also holds huge potential for applications of integration systems.
