Abstract

12 rhesus monkeys inoculated with 50 P. knowlesi parasites were passively immunized with immune IgG. Protection was manifest in 6 animals by a lengthening of the pre-patent period and in 3 by complete suppression of parasitaemia. The degree of protection achieved was less than that observed in previous human and monkey tests. The difference can be ascribed to:— 1. (i) the fact that the immune IgG contained a low level of antibody as measured by specific absorption (0·9% total) or by in vitro assay of protective antibody and, 2. (ii) the use of an IgG fraction having a lower content of protective antibody than whole immune serum.
