Abstract
Another political party conference season has just finished and not unexpectedly has been the most eventful and interesting for many years. As a charity the College has a duty to enter into the national political arena in the interests of furthering its objectives, which are to obtain the highest possible standards of surgical patient care. Hence we sent a full team to all three conferences, consisting of myself and another Council member (John Getty at the Liberal Democrats, Bob Greatorex at Labour and Mike Parker at the Conservatives) with strong support from Alison Cook, Director of External Affairs, and her Policy Unit and Communications Department. The fascinating feature of course was that for the first time since 1945, two parties out of three are in government.
