Abstract

In the following paper the issue of partner relationships in international joint ventures and their effect on joint venture management and performance/success is investigated. Apart from the fact that partner relationships can be crucial for solving conflict in management, they can substitute control systems on the basis of factors like partner trust and partner reciprocity. This is an asset especially for small and medium-sized companies who cannot afford elaborate cross-border control systems and who would therefore rather trust the joint venture partner firm to act in a fair manner while following and exercising its own interests.
