Abstract

A procedure for the investigation of pantition of the pertechnetate anion into diethyl ether is given. Since close temperature control was not necessary for the extraction condition, all extractions took place at room temperature. The ether layer was evaporated on a planchet and counted. Less than 1 cpm was detected, which indicated a good baek extraction. In the region of 0.0 to 6.0 N HNO/sub 3/ the extraction coefficient is signific antly dependent upon hydrogen ion concentration. Increastng the acidity of the aqueous layer favors protonation of the ether molecule to yield the diethyloxonium ion. In the region of 6.0 to 10.0 N HNO/sub 3/, it appears that maximum protonation was obtained, and the partition of the pertechnetate ion is at a relative maximum. (P.C.H.)
