Abstract

Using radionuclides of the elements Ca, Ce, Pm, Gd, Tb, and Yb, we have studied the partition of these lanthanides between fluorite and CaF 2-saturated solutions of different pH values, but of constant 1 M (NaCl) ionic strength, at 100, 150, 200 and 250 °C and the corresponding saturation pressures. The partition quotients: (Q ca) c, p = (n Ca ∗) c, p (n Ca ∗) L and (Q Ln) c, p = (n Ln) c, p (n Ln) L as well as the partition coefficients: D = (Q Ln) c,p (Q Ca) c,p(n Ln) c,p[Ca] L[Ln] L(n Ca) c,p where: c = fluorite crystal, p = fluorite precipitate, L = liquid, and ∗ = radioactive , have been determined. Different coprecipitation and adsorption mechanisms are discussed.
