Abstract

Latinx people have always had a special relationship with the natural environment. A population that has received less attention within this group is Latinx producers and farmers. The topics of local foods and farms operated by Latinx producers and farm workers allow us to decenter leisure and examine the socio-ecological “challenges [that] intersect with leisure, as the central focus of inquiry” (TALS, 2023, para. 2). At the risk of the health and wellbeing of Latinx producers and farm workers, many individuals incorporate food into their leisure and some communities use farming to strengthen their economy. This piece advocates for more investigation of the social and environmental injustices affecting Latinx producers and farm workers that remain out of sight in the leisure literature.
