In terms of design and operating rules, there are to date a large number of applicable texts and related prescriptions, complicating the overall understanding of the requirements in this area. Thanks to the latter, however, it is possible to identify the optimal requirements in terms of radiation protection, both in terms of design and operation, in order to develop and structure a nuclear medicine department that adapts to the risks of exposure to ionizing radiation in accordance with the “ALARA” radiation protection principle. For this, many instances are involved and the precise chronology of the various filings of files and procedures, also relatively difficult to understand and yet essential to the development of an NM service.
