Abstract

Recently, psychiatric pathology has become more common among adolescents and young adults. The transition from adolescent to adult is a difficult period with multiple transformations in academic, social and emotional levels. Depression, suicidal ideation but also suicide among adolescents and young adults are a much more common pathology than expected, therefore it is necessary to know the risk factors in order to prevent autolytic attempts among young people. Objective. The identification of risk factors involved in suicide in patients aged 18-25 years old. Materials and method. The study is a retrospective analysis of the data from the files of the patients admitted to the Psychiatric Clinic II, Mureş County Clinical Hospital, diagnosed with depressive pathology. The sample was divided into two groups, depending on the existence of an autolytic attempt at admission or in personal history. Results. The statistical interpretation of the data highlighted statistically significant differences between the risk factors that may favor autolytic attempts. The risk factors identified by us are: depressive pathology with a severe intensity (p=0.02), subjects who live in rural areas (p=0.04), subjects who have a deficient support network (p=0.015) and multiple intrafamily conflicts (p=0.000051), but also borderline personality traits (p=0.04). Conclusions. There are many associations between multiple risk factors and autolytic attempts. By knowing these risk factors, multiple ways can be developed to achieve the prevention of suicide, especially by educating the population about the signs and symptoms of depression.
