Abstract

The high angular momentum structure of /sup 141/Pm has been studied via the /sup 126/Te(/sup 19/F,4n..gamma..) reaction at beam energies from 74 to 84 MeV. In-beam ..gamma..-ray spectroscopy techniques, including ..gamma..-ray excitation function, ..gamma..-..gamma.. coincidence, and ..gamma..-ray angular distribution measurements were used. A level spectrum up to an excitation energy of 4782 keV was constructed. Definite parity assignments were made up to the (21/2/sup -/) state. The low-lying structure is discussed in terms of a weak coupling between the valence proton and the N = 80 cores. The earlier treatment of /sup 141/Pm in terms of a particle-plus-triaxial rotor is critiqued.
