Abstract

In the present paper we make a review of the present situation of understanding the structure of low-lying states in the muclei around 208Pb, especially working in the coupling between the vibrational degrees of freedom of the core and the degrees of freedom on particles. By taking mostly the octupole shape oscillation of 208Pb as an example of vibrations, the particle-vibration coupling model is applied for understanding various aspects of the nuclear many-body problem.
