Abstract

The paper presents results of experimental investigations of particle agglomeration by an industrial scale unipolar kinematic electrostatic agglomerator used for the agglomeration of PM2.5 particles with particles >5 μm in alternating electric field before their removal by a bag filter. The gas cleaning system comprising of electrostatic precipitator and electrostatic agglomerator was installed at a by-pass of an exhaust gas conveying duct downstream of a 225 MWe power unit with coal-fired boiler. The flow rate through the system was between 3000 and 7500 Nm3/h. The number size distribution of particles was measured downstream of the agglomerator for various supply voltages of the agglomerator. The mass collection efficiency of this system determined from these measurements for PM10 particles was higher than 99.9%. It was also shown that the regeneration period of the bag filter downstream of the agglomerator can be extended at least five times in this system.
