Abstract
Based on a method developed byFaxen, approximate expressions were developed for the rotational and translational velocities of a single rigid sphere near a plane rigid wall bounding Couette flow, and near another sphere of either different or the same size in Couette flow. The solutions to the latter problem provide equations for the orbits of each sphere about the other, some of which are closed. In many respects the results are similar to the corresponding two-dimensional problems for cylinders.
