Abstract
The 4p-hole spectral function of La metal is calculated by using the recently introduced Green’s function model calculation method. The approximation employed in the scheme is as good as the ab initio extended random phase approximation with exchange (RPAE). The method can provide a reasonably good description of the 2s–4p X-ray emission spectrum of La metal. The anomalous spectral lineshape of the 4p-hole spectral function is explained in terms of the interaction between the initial 4p hole state and the final 4d−24f multiplet states. The charge transfer core-hole screening effect in La compounds is discussed.
